About ISA2024

Theme of ISA2024

Leaving no country behind: Moving beyond awareness to action to save babies.

Stillbirths have been ignored for a long time even at global level and countries often do not have processes to count or prevent them. It is important for countries to adopt a differential approach to further reduce stillbirths based on their contextual priorities, available resources, the global evidence and best practices.

The annual ISA conference started with the aim to put stillbirths on the agenda globally and regionally, and to show that action must be taken locally. The first annual ISA conference was held in 2005, and ISA ran joint congress with the International Society for Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID) biannually between 2010 and 2021.  Thus far, 18 annual ISA conferences have taken place in countries covering every continent.  The annual ISA conference is an opportunity to engage with a diverse community of bereaved parents, academics, researchers, clinicians, and policy makers engaged in prevention, bereavement care, and advocacy for reducing stillbirths and newborn deaths. It represents a rich platform for spreading knowledge and sharing local, national and international strategies for stillbirth prevention, as it highlights multi- disciplinary approaches to preventing stillbirths in all its complexity.

The themes of the Conference includes,

  • Antenatal care
  • Intrapartum care
  • Postpartum care
  • Bereavement care
  • Data and information systems
  • Parent perspectives
  • Epidemiology and risk factors
  • Perinatal autopsy
  • Quality of care
  • Program and policy

Visas – Important Updates (7 October, 2024)

Please note, the visa process for Sri Lanka is under some updates. We will be sure to share the most up-to-date information with community members and participants as soon as we make note and confirm with Sri Lankan partners. Below are the most recent recommendations – and likely the final update before our event in November.

It is recommended by our Sri Lankan partners to apply for a Tourist Visa for those traveling to attend the ISA2024 event, rather than a business visa.

You will not need an invitation letter in order to apply for the Tourist Visa. You will need a passport with at least six months validity from the date of entry into Sri Lanka. It is also recommended to apply for this visa as early as possible.

Please visit the official Sri Lanka eVisa Website to learn more about materials needed and the process for applying to your eVisa: https://eta.gov.lk/slvisa/

Arrival cards are available online for filling out prior to arrival. This eases airport immigration clearance: https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/emb/eEmbarkation/’#/home-page

Please note the following information from the notice on the official site regarding specific countries:

Visitors from Restricted Countries who intend to apply for ETA may apply through Sri Lankan Sponsor for their ETA from the Head office of the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka.

If you are a passport holder from any of the countries listed below, you will now need to present the following documents upon arrival in Sri Lanka:

  1. Police Clearance Report: A police clearance report from your country of residence, confirming that you have no criminal record.

  2. Guarantor Letter: A letter of guarantee, which will be provided by ISA2024, to support your visa on arrival process.

Restricted Countries:

  • Pakistan

  • Nepal
  • Afghanistan
  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • Cameroon
  • Syria
  • Ivory Coast
  • North Korea
  • Yemen
